Public Participation

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) encourages public involvement as a way to help federal agencies make good decisions about drinking water projects. Our project team believes that a successful Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) incorporates a broad range of public viewpoints.

The public meetings hosted in October 2004 provided information for the alternatives development process as part of the Draft EIS. Feedback collected during these meetings is summarized in the Final Public Scoping Document, which is available on the news page of this web site.

The project team is developing the Draft EIS. Once the Draft EIS is completed, which will take several months, the document will be available for public review in a number of public facilities throughout the project area, and on this web site. A public hearing, possibly during winter 2006, will be scheduled to gather public comment on the Draft EIS. Input gathered during this hearing will be evaluated and used to complete the Final EIS.
