Sept. 14, 2007 -- The National Environment Education Foundation’s National Public Lands Day (NPLD), will be providing volunteers nationwide with a chance to roll up their sleeves and build sweat-equity in America’s backyard—our public lands.
Sponsored for the ninth straight year by Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc., NPLD is the largest volunteer hands-on activity of its kind in the country providing over $12 million in volunteer labor and in-kind contributions to over 1,100 public land areas nationwide. Last year, 100,000 volunteers built trails and bridges, planted trees and plants, and removed trash and invasive plants.
NPLD partners with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Defense, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, and USDA Forest Service along with state, county, city and other local land management agencies.
