Dr. Steven W. Carothers, SWCA Founder at the
Deer Creek Overlook in
the Grand Canyon, 1987.
History

Since our establishment in 1981, SWCA has been committed to working with integrity and effectiveness, acknowledging the importance of our employees, and using science-based innovation to facilitate the objectives of our clients.

Our founder, Dr. Steven W. Carothers, was a Curator of Biology for the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff prior to establishing SWCA. When he left the organization, he maintained relationships with several agencies such as the Grand Canyon National Park and the Bureau of Reclamation. These agencies regularly retained Dr. Carothers’ services, and as his client base grew, he incorporated the company in 1984.

Conducting biological surveys throughout the southwest, Dr. Carothers recognized the need to expand. He opened an office in Tucson and began to increase his staff. Each year, SWCA acquired more clients, welcomed more experienced staff, and increased our technological resources. We now have 22 throughout the U.S. and its territories.

SWCA continues to provide the same type of services upon which we built our company. Dr. Carothers understood that the key to helping our clients successfully complete their projects is keeping our services focused and attracting highly competent employees. We have worked under this philosophy for the past 26 years, and we will continue to do so.
