SMUD Cosumnes Power Plant

Overview:

In 2003, SWCA was awarded a $2.7M on-call services contract with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) in support of its major Cosumnes Power Plant Project. The project consists of a multi-year construction effort for the power plant site, a new 26-mile natural gas pipeline, roadway, and other facilities.


Services Provided:

  • Prepared the project’s cultural, biological and paleontological resources
  • Supervised multiple teams of cultural, biological and paleontological Native American monitors
  • Developed an Unanticipated Discovery Plan
  • Added revisions to the project’s Programmatic Agreement, in accordance with NHPA
  • Prepared the cultural, biological and paleontological resource sections of the Worker Environmental Awareness Programs required by the CEC
  • Tribal consultation with the Ione Band of Miwok Indians

Results:                                                                                                                                            SWCA received high praise for our commitment to obtaining relevant certifications by the CEC and maintaining close communication with project stakeholders. Kevin Hudson, SMUD senior project manager stated, “SWCA has provided quality, reliable and responsive service for SMUD’s power plant and natural gas pipeline installation…SWCA managed their work to provide the suitable degree of monitoring necessary to comply with regulatory requirements, while closely managing capital expenses.
