Central Arizona

Overview:
SWCA assisted Arizona-American Water Company in obtaining Section 404 clearance for a new water treatment plant to be built in the western Phoenix metropolitan area in conjunction with the Maricopa Water District (MWD). The plant is necessary to serve a rapidly growing urban area with renewable Central Arizona Project water, and eventually could serve as much as 80 million gallons per day. Permitting included not only the treatment plant site itself, but also a 14-mile trunk line to service the plant.

Services Provided:

  • Cultural resources
  • Biological resources
  • Jurisdictional delineation
  • 404 permitting

Results
The 404 permits were submitted to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The treatment plant is currently being constructed with a planned operation date for the first phase, treating 13.5 million gallons per day, for 2008.
