GIS Development for the Gila River Indian Community
Pinal County, Arizona
Overview
SWCA was contracted by the Gila River Indian Community (GRIC) Department of Water Quality to create a custom Geographic Information System (GIS) to assist the Department in collecting information concerning GRIC infrastructure, surface and groundwater quality and wells.
Services Provided:
- Compiled all data previously obtained by the Department, reviewed the information for accuracy and completeness and supplemented existing information with additional geographic coverages
Results:
SWCA created a GIS system that allows the client to use information collected from their own studies and those of other GRIC agencies. To keep Department staff from needing a GIS expert for the creation of custom, quality maps, SWCA programmed a custom Graphic User Interface (GUI). The GUI has allowed Division staff to make use of its information and produce quality maps quickly and efficiently and has since been used to support new water quality ordinances and initiatives.
