Middle Rio Grande River Habitat Restoration Project Phase II
Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties, NM

Overview:

The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (NMISC) has retained SWCA to assist with the evaluation and implementation of various habitat restoration techniques, which have been determined by the Middle Rio Grande Endangered Species Collaborative Program (Program) to benefit the endangered Rio Grande silvery minnow (Hybognathus amarus) within the Albuquerque Reach of the middle Rio Grande. These techniques have been modified based on findings and results of previous restoration activities. The goal of the project is to create improved habitat conditions for the Rio Grande silvery minnow during all life stages (egg, larval, young-of-year, and adult). This is Phase II of a four-phase project. Phase I began in 2006 and Phase IV will continue through 2009. Approximately 85 acres were treated during Phase II, with treatment areas that include islands, bars, banks and a diversion structure.
