Environmental Services for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe

Overview:
SWCA was selected to complete National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation, including supporting biological and archaeological studies, in support of the following projects for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe in Arizona: planned housing restorations and rehabilitations; transfer of approximately 680 acres of land from fee simple to trust; and construction of a Diabetes Wellness Center. NEPA projects involved meetings and frequent correspondence with HUD (housing restorations/rehabilitations) and BIA (land transfers and Wellness Center).

  • Environmental Assessment preparation and supporting documentation
  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Cultural resources surveys
  • Biological resources surveys (including Pima Pineapple Cactus and Cactus Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl Surveys
  • Clean Water Act (CWA) jurisdictional waters delineations

Results:
During completion of these projects, SWCA staff developed close professional and personal relationships with tribal members and employees of HUD and BIA. The Tribe frequently requested advice on complex permitting issues and they praised SWCA for our expertise and tribal sensitivity. Throughout these projects, several permits required an extremely short turn-around time. SWCA was able to consistently organize and prepare submittals in a timely and professional manner.
