Overview:

SWCA will develop a "front-end" Geographic Information System user interface application that will streamline data queries and environmental report writing using Harris County Flood Control District`s existing Watershed Environmental Baseline (WEB) Map GIS database. This project will occur in two phases.

Services Provided:

Phase I: Developed a custom user interface tool bar to auto-query multiple GIS data layers in HCFCD’s Watershed Environmental Baseline map database.  These included wetlands, endangered species locations, archeological survey areas, hazardous materials locations, geologic faults, soils information, etc.

Phase II: Developing an additional tool that automatically writes an Environmental Assessment using the WEB map data and is completed by the end-user.

Results:

This project saves hours of HCFCD personnel time which would otherwise be spent querying each individual GIS data layer. HCFCD staff is currently using the tool to streamline consultant fatal-flaw reviews of project specific locations throughout Harris County.
