Overview:
SWCA performed cultural and natural resource services for Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s 98-square-mile Stanley 3-D Seismic Prospect, located in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. The background review associated with developing the avoidance plan revealed the presence of 35 recorded archaeological sites, 6 cemeteries, and 1 historic railroad grade within the Prospect area.
Services Provided:
- Development of a written archaeological avoidance plan
- Absence/presence survey of protected species, including the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker, bald eagle, the threatened Earth-fruit, and colonial bird rookeries
In addition to this project, SWCA has been completing natural and cultural resource tasks associated with numerous small-diameter gathering pipelines within the area on behalf of one of Chesapeake’s subsidiaries. Furthermore, SWCA is currently providing natural and cultural resource services on two other Chesapeake seismic projects located in northern Texas and northwestern Louisiana.
