Oak Hill Pipeline Construction
Rusk County, Texas

Overview:
SWCA was retained to provide cultural resource management and geographic information systems (GIS) services to support the construction of approximately 38 miles of pipeline that will collect and transport natural gas from dozens of well sites in the Rusk County area.

Services Provided:
  • Cultural resource surveys
  • Developed and maintained an environmental GIS model of the entire project
  • Identified all historic houses and other structures within 220 yards of the proposed pipeline
  • Wetlands delineation
  • Used global positioning systems (GPS) and laser range finders to determine proposed route locations

Results:
This project exemplifies SWCA ability to use GIS technology to minimize environmental impacts. Following SWCA’s recommendations, the client was able to plan a project that could be permitted with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) under Nationwide Permit 12 (Utility Lines), with no need to submit a Preconstruction Notification (PCN) to the Ft. Worth USACE District. In bypassing the PCN requirement, the client saved several months of project time.
