Clark County Wetlands Park Master Plan and EIS
Las Vegas, Nevada



Overview:
SWCA was contracted by Clark County, Nevada to provide environmental survey, planning, permitting and archaeological services to assist in the development of a master plan for a 5,000 acre wetlands park along Las Vegas Wash. SWCA provided project-related planning information and technical support for a steering committee that consisted of federal, state and local government agencies as well as conservation and recreation organizations.

Services Provided:
  • Characterized aquatic and terrestrial habitats and documented environmental and cultural conditions
  • Prepared the Wetland Conservation Management Plan
  • Developed mitigation and revegetation plans for erosion control structures Assisted in development of a Programmatic EIS
  • Supported Section 7 consultations between the Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • Developed a “general permit” with the Corps of Engineers for the Las Vegas Wash, allowing the phased development of erosion control structures over the next 20 years, wetland mitigation banking throughout the region, and ongoing development of wetland conservation management programs

Results:
Clark County Parks and Community Services is continuing development of the Wetlands Parks. SWCA has provided services for this project continually since 1991 including 404 permits, endangered species compliance, tiered Environmental Assessments under the Programmatic EIS, revegetation plans for the new visitor center, and general monitoring and annual surveys.
