SWCA was selected by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and the City of St. George to prepare an environmental assessment (EA) and associated technical studies for the proposed St. George Water Reuse Project. The project involved upgrading the St. George Water Reclamation Facility and constructing a pipeline to annually deliver 2,000 acre-feet of reuse water to the eastern boundary of the Shivwits Indian Reservation boundary.

Services Provided:
  • Prepared an EA
  • Prepared a biological assessment (BA)
  • Developed a cultural resources report that analyzed the impacts of the proposed pipeline, reservoirs and reduction in discharge from the reclamation facility
  • Conducted a wetland delineation and waters of the U.S. determination
  • Coordinated with three federal agencies (BIA, BLM, and FWS) and the City of St. George
  • Participated in a public meeting

Results:
After two years of coordinating with the BIA, BLM, and FWS, the final EA was approved and two FONSIs were signed by the BIA and BLM in 2004. Our patience and professionalism throughout the process was commended by the agencies.
