GIS Staff Services for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Overview:

 

Under a five-year IDIQ contract, SWCA is providing cartographic and geographic information systems (GIS) staff support to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), National Wildlife Refuge System, Region 1, Division of Refuge Planning, GIS & Cartography Branch in Portland, OR. This branch is responsible for the creation and maintenance of digital, geo-reference data for all of Region 1 refuges, national fish hatcheries, wildlife management areas, and other USFWS facilities in Oregon, Washington, California,  Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.



Services Provided:

  • Update and maintenance of Region 1 Land Status information
  • Land classification and land use patterns
  • Programming to support web-based access to spatial information
  • Surface and groundwater modeling
  • Water rights mapping and data management
  • Mapping and analysis for Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP)
  • Landscape level ecological modeling
  • Technical support for Region 1 staff
  • Service land records maintenance


Results:

SWCA’s cost effective, yet flexible GIS staff was scheduled to meet USFWS staff and refuge needs. Our staff capacity was readily expanded, then decreased, to meet the agency’s task order and budget needs. Finally, SWCA produced high quality, state of the art GIS products for Region 1 facilities.
