Mine Reuse Plan for the Navajo Nation Black Mesa and Kayenta Mines

Overview:
SWCA teamed with JJ Clacs and Company to provide recommendations for the reuse of facilities and land at the Black Mesa and Kayenta Mines, located on the Navajo Reservation, in the event of closure.

Services Provided:

  • Developed a land use and Community Development Plan, which included plans for existing and proposed roads, impoundment ponds, structures and utility lines

Results:
SWCA worked with several agencies to develop the Community Development Plan. The plan provided an overview of the leasehold’s current infrastructure and natural and cultural resources. Most importantly, it sets the policies and direction for future economic growth in the area.
