Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve Monitoring

Overview:
The Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation contracted SWCA to conduct a monitoring program for 1000 acres of wetlands on the Inland Sea Shorebird Reserve (ISSR) that were impacted from the expansion of the Bingham Copper Mine tailings impoundment.
Services Provided:
- Avian surveys for migratory shorebirds, waterfowl and other water associated birds
- Shoreline and upland vegetation monitoring
- Macroinvertebrate abundance and distribution
- Water and soil chemistry
- HEP Analysis
- Prepared a long-term management plan that includes a noxious weed management plan
Results:
The ISSR mitigation wetlands are providing high functioning habitat for migratory shorebirds, waterfowl and other water-associated birds.
