
Ethnography, Ethnohistory, and Inventory Services for Pumpkin Buttes

Overview:
SWCA assisted several companies, including CH4, XTO, Williams, and Lance Oil and Gas, with meeting National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) requirements for the identification and documentation of ethnographic and ethnohistoric resources located on Pumpkin Buttes in Campbell County, Wyoming.
Services Provided:
- Tribal consultation, including an assessment of historic butte use
- Performed a cultural resources inventory
Results:
As a result of SWCA's ethnohistoric and ethnographic investigations, it was determined that Pumpkin Buttes are eligible for National Register of Historic Places nomination as a Traditional Cultural Property (TCP). The Bureau of Land Management Buffalo Field Office (BLM-BFO), who initially requested the investigations, was pleased with SWCA's work on this project and stated that our documentation was "comprehensive and well-written." In addition, our industry clients recommended SWCA to other operators in the area who were in need of tribal consultation services.
