Silver State East Fiber Optic Project
Multiple Counties in Nevada and Utah

Overview:
SWCA provided third party environmental compliance monitoring, in addition to staff support, to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for construction of a 630-mile fiber optic cable between Reno, Nevada and Spanish Fork, Utah.
 
Services Provided:
  • Collected cultural resource information from all BLM field offices along the right-of-way (ROW)
  • Prepared a Memorandum of Understanding cost-sharing agreement between the BLM and the USDA Forest Service
  • Prepared the project’s legal description and Programmatic Agreement
  • Created environmental sensitivity training materials and provided relevant education
  • Continuous cultural resource monitoring
  • Archaeological surveys
 
Results:
This project demonstrates SWCA’s ability to work effectively on large and complex projects. The project size required constant communication and staff that was readily available. SWCA was able to provide rotating staff to help the client to meet tight deadlines. Our staff kept a log of project activities and progress, which was sent to the client each day and used as a guide during the client’s project meetings. Agency officials commended us for our commitment to educating personnel about project issues and preparing documents in a timely manner.
