Karst and Caves
Karst and cave habitats are home to numerous adapted species, many of which are endangered. Because of the interaction between terrestrial habitats and those below the surface, SWCA conducts both terrestrial and cave ecology studies. We are one of few consulting firms who can perform these studies with a scientific permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. We use ground-penetrating radar to detect caves and a genetic bar coding technique that allows us to sequence the DNA of species for identification and classification purposes. We can help clients in all phases of their projects, from cave identification, to biological surveys, to mitigation and preservation planning.
