Consulting Indian Tribes in
Cultural Resources Review (2 days)
Consultation with stakeholders is required in the course of project review under the National Historic Preservation Act, and has become increasingly important under the National Environmental Policy Act.
Indian tribes and other indigenous groups often have special consultation rights that present particular challenges.
This course helps participants understand the methods of consultation that are applicable to people and communities everywhere and
those that are relevant specifically to indigenous groups. It explores the special legal status of Indian tribes as consulting parties and the
cultural issues that may impede or facilitate consultation with tribes and other indigenous people.
