SWCA has an ecological restoration and engineering team that designs, permits, and builds environmental restoration projects. This capacity has been useful when confronting issues such as groundwater recharge zones; fisheries and wildlife habitat enhancement; and watershed, wetland and coastal restoration. Past restoration projects range from small private estates to large Superfund sites, gravel pits, ponds, and rivers.
We also work with clients to manage water quality and fisheries habitats. Whether you need algae removal, water clarification, nutrient removal, or improved fisheries or swimming conditions, SWCA has an appropriate solution. Our team has developed innovative approaches to stabilizing and protecting lake and pond banks using bioengineering (“soft engineering”) techniques and native vegetation. This involves using plant materials and erosion-control products to stabilize slopes, waterways, and banks. Bioengineering is an alternative to stone rip-rap, stone gabion baskets, concrete, or other “hard” engineering techniques. In many cases, bioengineering can be used as a more natural and less invasive method for soil stabilization.
