Bio

John Dietler is the Senior Vice President of SWCA’s West Region, which includes staff and projects in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. John joined SWCA in 2008 and has been instrumental in growing the Pasadena, San Diego, and Honolulu offices. He first served as an Archaeological Principal Investigator in the Pasadena office, moving into the Cultural Resources Director role in 2010. In August 2017, John took responsibility for the entire Pasadena operation as Southern California Principal. Establishing a new office in San Diego and working with the Honolulu office, John served as the Vice President of Southern California and the Pacific Islands beginning in 2019. During that period, the subregion grew by 300%. Most recently, John moved into the Senior Vice President position for the West Region. Over the past 15 years, John has developed and contributed to a variety of operations and offices with a strong focus on our clients, projects, and staff.

John has extensive experience across the environmental field, leading multidisciplinary project teams in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), for both public and private clients, including government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels. A Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) since 2003, he has also served as subject matter expert for hundreds of cultural resources projects throughout the western United States in the energy, transportation, and land development sectors.
