Our goal is to see all of our employees go home safely and in good health at the end of every day. To achieve that, SWCA has created a robust safety program based on proactive measures to prevent accidents as well as to ensure a positive outcome if a safety incident does occur. We empower our employees to be stewards of safety, and we provide continual education and ongoing communication on the importance of safety.

Employee Safety Culture

SWCA's extensive safety trainings and programs equip all employees with the best information and skills available.

Injury and Illness Prevention Plans (I2P2) – All California offices adhered to the Cal OSHA Rule for Injury and Illness Prevention Plans. The safety team has established a company-wide I2P2 Plan based on the California model, which includes Codes of Safe Practices for all key areas of the program.

Training – SWCA meets and exceeds client and industry certifications and supplemental training requirements. All employees undergo recurring Core Trainings, plus Field Training intended for those that deploy to the field. SWCA has staff trained in HAZWOPER, OSHA 10 and 30, MSHA, etc.

Annual Safety Kickoff - To demonstrate SWCA’s commitment to safety the entire company participates in a safety kickoff that celebrates accomplishments from the previous year and highlights new safety initiatives along with introducing a safety theme for the year.

Safety Stars - SWCA’s Safety Star Program is one of the ways SWCA is making safety an integral part of our culture and promoting safe practices at work and at home. While safety is every employee’s responsibility, a “Safety Star” displays exceptional efforts in safety.

App Technology

SWCA's employee apps help track vehicle conditions and instantly report safety incidents for follow-up.

Electronic Vehicle Inspection Log (VIL) - SWCA's VIL app provides staff a time-saving inspection tool to track the condition of a vehicle over time, identify potential safety concerns, and ensure proper maintenance is performed.

Safety Incident Reporting and Emergency Notification (SiREN) - SWCA's industry recognized safety application, SiREN, enables employees to instantaneously report an incident to their office leadership, the local office safety representative, and the corporate safety team.

Field Technology

Working in the field means staying connected, especially when employee safety is on the line.

GPS/Personal Locators - Field Staff are equipped with satellite communication/GPS devices for work in remote locations.

Heat Stress Meters - Field staff are equipped with heat stress wet bulb globe temperature meters to aid in preventing heat stress incidents.

Team Professionalism

Our safety team brings together a wealth of experience from a variety of industries and positions.

Team Experience - SWCA’s safety team has over 50 years of combined experience, including a VP of Risk Management, Safety Manager, Safety Observers/Trainers, Safety Coordinators, and Office Safety Representatives nationwide.

Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructors – SWCA has in-house certified professionals who teach staff to respond to first aid, cardiac, and breathing emergencies.

ASP/GSP - SWCA employs certified Associate Safety Professionals (ASP) and Graduate Safety Practitioners (GSP).

Personnel Auxiliary Support

Office safety and field safety practices are critically important to our success.

Office Safety Representative (OSR) – SWCA’s OSRs are localized extensions of the safety team that oversee the overall Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) compliance of their office.

Field Safety Representative (FSR) – SWCA’s FSR Program features include more localized eyes and ears for field safety, enhanced regional driver’s trainers, and increased contact between the field crews and the safety team.

Technical Auxiliary Support

Our employee-led Wildfire Safety Advisory Group and Dive Safety Board are made up experts of in their fields.

Wildfire Safety Advisory Group (WSAG) – SWCA has a dedicated Wildfire Assistance Helpline, staffed by experienced wildfire team members. Field staff can call in urgent situations and receive real-time guidance.

Dive Safety Board – SWCA has established a Dive Safety Board that ensures all Dive-Related Projects are performed in compliance with Scripps Scientific Diving Rules.
