John Dietler is the principal of the Southern California region overseeing operations of the Pasadena office. John joined SWCA in 2008 and has been instrumental in growing the Pasadena office. He first served as Principal Investigator, eventually moving into the Cultural Resources Director role in 2010. In August 2017, John took responsibility for both the Cultural and Natural Resources programs in Pasadena. Over the past ten years, John has developed and contributed to a variety of operations and offices with a strong focus on our clients, projects, and staff.

John has extensive experience across the environmental field, leading multidisciplinary project teams in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), for both public and private clients, including government agencies at the federal, state, and local levels. A Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) since 2003, he has also served as subject matter expert for more than 150 cultural resources projects throughout the western United States in the energy, transportation, and land development sectors.
