Description

SWCA started working with MAG Silver at the Deer Trail Mine when MAG Silver purchased the property in 2019. MAG Silver is conducting an exploration project of a silver-copper system in Piute County Utah. Drilling is occurring on both patented and unpatented land. SWCA supported permitting on patented lands with the Utah Division of Oil, Gas & Mining, and on USFS lands associated with the Fishlake National Forest. Project elements include baseline data collection concerning biological, water resources, and cultural resources.

Project components consist of construction of new access roads, drill sites, and associated ancillary facilities. SWCA supported development of a preliminary groundwater model to meet USFS requirements. SWCA prepared an Exploration Plan of Operations and also supported the USFS with two Environmental Assessments and two Categorical Exclusion Assessments to analyze impacts to air quality, water quality, wildlife resources, cultural resources, soil resources, and geology. SWCA has also assisted MAG Silver in completing their Notice of Intent.

SWCA Partners with MAG Silver to advance the Deer Trail Exploration Project

Tucked away in the serene confines of the Mount Baldy Mining District lies the Deer Trail Mine, a site that was initially discovered in 1878. Nestled within the Fishlake National Forest in Utah, this mine is a testament to the region’s mining heritage, boasting a rich history that spans generations.

Over the years, stewardship of the Deer Trail Mine has changed hands many times. However, it was in 2019 that MAG Silver Corporation, operating under the banner of Deer Trail Mine, embarked on a new chapter. They reached out to SWCA, previously listed on the past Division of Gas and Mining permit, to forge a new partnership.
