Description

SWCA worked with the Kenai Peninsula Borough to develop a Peninsula-wide CWPP that included 17 existing community-level plans. The CWPP incorporated rigorous fire behavior risk assessment protocols and vegetation and fuels datasets. SWCA worked with a very large group of stakeholders in development of the plan, including federal, state, and local government partners and native Alaskan communities. Due to the remote nature of the Kenai Peninsula, SWCA worked with the client to develop creative solutions to public outreach that enabled engagement from rural residents, some of which required air or sea access. SWCA completed an accompanying CWPP story map (see link in Appendix C, Sample 4: Kenai Peninsula Borough CWPP).

This project demonstrates our team’s ability to apply our proven fire planning strategies and risk analysis approach across various fire environments and community types. No matter the project location, complexity of client needs, or fuel and vegetation types, SWCA has a proven history of delivering high-quality fire plans that are specifically tailored to the unique concerns of a population. Our diverse geographic experience is a value to our clients because we can leverage a broad spectrum of fire mitigation strategies, opinions, and perspectives learned from many different geographies, jurisdictions, and community types. Instead of only drawing experience from California, we have a nationwide perspective that has been highly valued by our clients when developing recommended actions.
