Description

SWCA partnered with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska State Office to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) evaluating the potential revocation of land withdrawals across approximately 28 million acres of public lands. The effort encompassed five BLM planning areas: Bay, Bering Sea–Western Interior, East Alaska, Kobuk–Seward Peninsula, and Ring of Fire, authorized under Section 17(d)(1) of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANSCA).

Developed in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the EIS assessed potential impacts associated with land use changes, including effects on local communities and subsistence use, wildlife and fisheries, cultural resources, environmental justice populations, and recreation. SWCA provided science-based analysis and regulatory expertise to support informed decision-making across Alaska’s diverse and expansive landscapes.
