Description

SWCA provided noise mitigation support for Diversified Energy Company at the Longhorn Pad A site located on Pennsylvania State Game Lands in Horton Township, Pennsylvania. The project focused on evaluating operational noise from compressor engines and associated data center equipment to ensure sound levels met applicable performance criteria.

SWCA conducted detailed noise modeling to evaluate potential mitigation strategies and determine whether sound levels could be maintained at or below 55 dBA at distances of 300 feet or greater from the center of the compressor engines during operations. Using the SoundPLAN acoustic modeling platform, SWCA developed a site-specific model incorporating equipment sources, layout information, and available manufacturer sound data.

Multiple alternative mitigation approaches were analyzed, including temporary and modular barrier configurations such as hay bale barriers, super sack berms, and Conex box planter walls. The modeling evaluated how each option could alter sound transmission paths and reduce noise levels at the compliance distance.

SWCA prepared a technical memorandum summarizing modeling inputs, assumptions, and results, including isopleth mapping and model outputs. The analysis provided Diversified Energy with practical mitigation options and supporting technical documentation to inform noise management decisions for the Longhorn Pad A facility.
