Description

SWCA is developing a detailed community-scale Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for the Central Pine Barrens Region of Long Island to address wildfire hazards affecting residents, infrastructure, and natural resources. The project includes extensive public outreach, stakeholder coordination, and collaboration with local agencies, fire departments, and community organizations.

SWCA conducts a fine-scale wildfire risk and hazard assessment to identify vulnerable areas, support emergency preparedness, and inform long-term mitigation strategies. The team evaluates fuels, landscape conditions, access constraints, and community vulnerabilities to help guide recommendations for wildfire resilience, response planning, and risk reduction. The CWPP also supports regional coordination and public education efforts aimed at strengthening community preparedness in a fire-adapted landscape.
