Amherst, Mass. –  The Massachusetts Underground Storage Tank (UST) regulations migrated from the Department of Fire Services (DFS) code 527 CMR 9.00 to the new Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) UST Regulation 310 CMR 80.00, which was adopted in 2015.

In 2008, the UST regulations were revised to state that single-wall USTs with a capacity of 1,100 gallons or more must be taken out of service by August 17, 2017. A contract for their removal must also be in place. An overview of the new UST regulations is available at http://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/dep/toxics/ust/ust-fs15.pdf

SWCA assists our clients with the removal and monitoring of USTs that fall under this regulation. If a petroleum release is noted, SWCA can move swiftly to develop a cost-effective resolution to address the release and achieve regulatory closure, i.e., “no further action.”
