The Half Moon Bay Planning Commission recently approved a restoration project near Pilarcitos Creek, which will resolve the unpermitted removal of a tree and planting of nonnative species within the environmentally sensitive riparian corridor.

On February 16, 2022, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Construction General Permit (CGP) will expire. The EPA will issue a revised CGP under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) for stormwater discharges from construction activities. The 2022 CGP, which will become effective on February 17, 2022, replaces the 2017 CGP. The new permit will be in effect for the next 5 years (2022 – 2027).

On December 22, 2021, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) proposed to list the cactus ferruginous pygmy-owl as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The proposed rule would prohibit take of the pygmy-owl, except for take arising from certain conservation and monitoring activities. The FWS invites comments on the proposed rule through February 22, 2022. A final rule is expected in 2023.
